Miami board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Arthur Desrosier independently reviewed the YoungerBod SmoothChest Bra and here's what he found.
As the founder of YoungerBod, I created the silicone sleep bra to help with my own chest wrinkles that I developed from side sleeping. Since our launch, I have been able to speak with many happy customers about how the sleep bra has helped them feel more confident, and I have been able to read hundreds of positive reviews. But anecdotal evidence is only part of the story and in today's fast paced beauty industry, having a credible science backed product is more important than ever.
That’s why I was excited when board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Arthur Desrosiers independently evaluated YoungerBod and gave an in-depth scientific analysis of chest wrinkles, skin aging, side sleeping, and how all of this affects how we look and feel. His team purchased our SmoothChest Bra themselves and tested them independently. This was not a paid collaboration or sponsored review. You can read Dr. Desrosiers’ full independent review of YoungerBod here. In this article I’ve summarized the most important takeaways from his research and I'm incredibly appreciative of the time and expertise he and his team at Marquis Plastic Surgery dedicated to evaluating both the science and the product.
Why the Décolletage Ages Differently: The Anatomy of Chest Wrinkles
In his review, Dr. Desrosiers explains that when most people think about skin aging, they focus on facial aging which consists of fine lines, sun exposure, pigmentation, and volume loss. Yet one of the earliest areas to show a person’s age is the upper chest, also called the décolletage. Part of this, he notes, is simply habit. Sunscreen and skincare are usually applied carefully to the face while the chest often receives less consistent care.
However, biology also plays a role as the skin of the décolleté is more delicate than the skin on the face. Studies show it tends to have thinner epidermis and dermis, fewer pilosebaceous units and a lower density of hair follicles. Anatomically, oil glands are associated with hair follicles, which means that compared to the face, chest skin produces less natural oil and retains less moisture. In addition to this, most people have only a modest layer of subcutaneous fat in this area, providing limited structural support.

Can Side Sleeping Cause Chest Wrinkles? The Role of Gravity
Dr. Desrosiers also explains that sun exposure does contribute to chest aging, but mechanical forces matter too, especially in women. Breast anatomy, gravity, and sleeping position all influence how the skin on the chest folds.
When you sleep on your side, the breasts naturally shift forward. In many women, this creates a fold in the skin between them. Night after night, that repetitive folding can lead to what is commonly called sleep wrinkles. Sleep wrinkles are vertical lines and deeper creases on the chest. As collagen declines with age, the skin becomes less elastic and less able to bounce back, making these lines more likely to etch in more over time.

Why Skincare Helps but Isn't Enough to Prevent Chest Wrinkles
Daily sunscreen and good skincare can help protect the décolletage and support healthier-looking skin over time. Dr. Desrosier recommends options like tretinoin or retinoic acid, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and other products that target discoloration, texture, hydration, and collagen support. In-office treatments such as microneedling, chemical peels, lasers, or hyper-dilute Radiesse, which is a calcium hydroxyapatite biostimulator, may also be used to improve the appearance of the chest skin. But even with all of these options, the one problem they do not solve is the repeated compression and folding of the chest that happens during side sleeping. This gap is what made sleep-specific chest wrinkle solutions especially worth looking at.
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon's Hot Take: Preventing sleep wrinkles requires more than just skincare
A Plastic Surgeon's Review of YoungerBods SmoothChest Sleep Bra
Women in Dr. Desrosiers’ office tested the SmoothChest Sleep Bra by YoungerBod to see if it would help with the mechanical folding of the chest due to side sleep. To keep the evaluation independent, staff members purchased the bras directly from YoungerBod and tried them on their own. They were able to review their results with Dr. Desrosier and here is what was found.
Separating and Supporting the Breasts
During the review, staff said the silicone lined center panel of the SmoothChest Sleep Bra stayed comfortably positioned between the breasts and helped maintain separation while side sleeping. They felt it helped reduce the downward collapsing effect that can cause chest skin to crease overnight. Testers also liked the amount of compression. The women who participated wore sizes ranging from XS to XL. The bra is made with a soft compression knit fabric sourced from Portugal, designed to offer consistent support without feeling overly tight or restrictive.
The smallest-framed tester, who is 5’7”, 108 lbs, with a 27-inch underbust and 34-inch overbust, and who has had a prior breast augmentation, noted that she has a very narrow natural space between her breasts. Because of that, she considered slightly narrowing the center silicone panel for a more customized fit. For reference, the narrowest part of the center panel on an XS/S is about 1 inch, while her intermarry distance is closer to 0.5 inches. Even so, she felt the bra worked well as designed and decided not to alter it because she was happy with the fit and performance overall. She also tested the bra while playing tennis and especially liked the breast stabilization and separation during movement.
How Silicone Works for Anti-aging
The SmoothChest Sleep Bra includes a thin layer of medical-grade silicone intergrated into the fabric on the inside of the center panel. The silicone is intended to gently grip to the skin and help keep the delicate chest area smooth and flat during sleep.
The idea is similar to silicone scar sheets or facial taping and when the skin is held flat and supported, it is less likely to fold into deep creases. Silicone may also help support hydration by reducing transepidermal moisture loss.
After testing the bra, staff members said their chest skin looked smoother in the morning. When asked whether they would keep using it, all of the testers said they liked the bra and planned to continue wearing it.

Chest Wrinkles are Easier to Prevent Than Treat
These chest wrinkles, often called “boob wrinkles” or décolleté creasing, can be especially difficult to improve once they have already formed. As we now know, the skin on the chest is thinner, produces less natural oil, and has less structural support underneath.
There are non-surgical treatments that can be done in-office, but they all come with limitations. Lasers and other energy-based treatments may help improve texture and discoloration, but they often require several sessions, downtime, and careful sun protection afterward. Injectables can be ok but they need to be used cautiously on the chest because this delicate area is more prone to visible unevenness or prolonged swelling. And as we also reviewed, skincare products are important, but they do not stop the repeated folding of the chest skin that happens during side sleeping.
This is why simple, non-surgical approaches like the SmoothChest Sleep Bra are so valuable for chest wrinkle prevention. Instead of focusing only on correcting chest wrinkles after they appear, the bra is designed to address the nightly mechanical creasing. Results show a visibly smoother chest like the ones seen in these before and afters. It is easy to wear, it does not require downtime, it is a one time purchase and can be used alongside sunscreen, skincare, and professional treatments as part of a longer-term plan to help improve the chest and help it look youthful.
Scientific Takeaway: Prevention is the best tool to keep your chest looking younger
SmoothChest Sleep Bra Compared to Sticky Chest Patches
Another prevention technique for the chest is the sticky chest wrinkle patches, which are adhesive silicone sheets placed directly on the chest overnight. They may help create a temporary smoothing effect, but they also come with some practical drawbacks. Since they depend on adhesive to stay in place, they can move, lift, or peel off while you sleep, especially if you change positions during the night. Some people may also find the adhesive uncomfortable or irritating with repeated use, particularly on the delicate skin of the chest. Another downside is that patches are disposable and need to be replaced regularly, which can become expensive over time. For example, CicaCare silicone sheets by Smith & Nephew cost $22 each on Amazon, meaning the cost can easily add up to hundreds of dollars over the course of a year.
The SmoothChest Sleep Bra takes a different approach. Instead of applying a separate adhesive patch to the skin, it has a built-in medical-grade silicone panel that is held in place by the bra itself. This helps keep the chest skin flat without depending on adhesive. Since the bra is washable and reusable, it is designed to be a longer-term solution rather than a product that needs to be continually replaced. It may also be easier for many people to make part of their nightly routine, since there is no need to apply and remove patches every night.
Plastic Surgeon Professional Opinion: Chest patches may not be the easiest way to prevent chest wrinkles
SmoothChest Sleep Bra Compared to Breast Pillows
Some people sleep with breast pillows or positioning pillows that are made to sit between the breasts and help reduce compression and give support while side sleeping. However, because they are not worn on the body, they can move out of place during the night, especially if you shift positions. Many people may also find them too bulky and while they would work in theory, they really aren't secure enough to provide the support needed to keep the chest skin smooth.
The SmoothChest Sleep Bra is different because it is worn like a garment, allowing it to stay positioned throughout the night, even for people who move in their sleep it stays comfortably in place and supports the chest. By combining support, breast separation, and a secure silicone panel, it helps manage the ongoing forces that can lead to chest wrinkles.
Plastic Surgeon Arthur Desrosiers Takeaway: Breast support is important to keep the chest skin smooth
Overall, Dr. Desrosiers’ review reinforces what inspired YoungerBod to be created in the first place: a real solution to the repeated mechanical folding of the chest that happens night after night during side sleep.
As the founder of YoungerBod, it means so much to have an independent, clinical, and scientific review that supports both the problem we are solving and the design behind the SmoothChest Sleep Bra. The goal has always been to create a simple, non-surgical solution that helps prevent chest creasing before it becomes harder to treat, and giving women more confidence in how they look.
We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Arthur Desrosiers and his team at Marquis Plastic Surgery for taking the time to independently test the SmoothChest Bra, explain the science behind sleep related chest folding, and share their honest experience.
